HOVERSHIP RACER RED

PROJECT BREAKDOWN : HOVERSHIP RACER RED 3RD PERSON VIEW

This sci-fi racing ship is inspired by the iconic Wipeout series, combining sleek aesthetics with high-performance engineering. The ship features a unique dual-wing system that maximizes maneuverability, allowing for precise control even at extreme speeds. Built with advanced aerodynamics, the design emphasizes high acceleration and agility, making it perfect for the intense, high-speed environments of futuristic racing. Engineered to withstand the forces of extreme velocity, this ship delivers both stability and fluid movement, providing a thrilling experience for any pilot.

Introduction :

Presenting my latest 3D model, the Red Racer—a high-speed sci-fi ship inspired by the futuristic designs of the Wipeout series. This model was created using 3ds Max for the core modeling and Substance Painter for detailed texturing, resulting in a sleek, dynamic craft built for extreme velocity. I’m thrilled with how it turned out, combining both aesthetics and performance to bring this concept to life.

Design and Inspiration :

The design of the Red Racer revolves around a core main body that serves as the foundation of the ship’s structure. From this central frame, the dual-wing system is seamlessly attached, giving the ship its distinctive and aerodynamic racer look. The wings are not just for show—they’re crucial for stability and maneuverability, allowing the ship to handle high-speed turns and rapid acceleration with ease.

Technical Details :

To enhance the mechanical realism, I’ve incorporated visible moving parts in the design. The wing joints, stabilizers, and thrusters are all modeled to suggest real-world functionality, giving the impression that this ship is more than just a futuristic vehicle—it’s a fully operational, high-performance racer. The addition of decals and race markings further reinforces the ship’s competitive nature, lending authenticity to its design as a professional racing machine. These details, along with carefully placed to tell the story of a ship that’s been through intense races and is built to handle extreme conditions.

I’m really happy with how this model turned out, combining the aesthetics of speed and functionality, all brought to life using 3ds Max and Substance Painter.

Challenges and Learning:

One of the main challenges in creating the Red Racer was crafting a believable paint job that truly reflects the essence of a high-speed racing ship. To achieve this, I developed a variety of unique decals representing different teams and sponsors, ensuring the ship feels authentic in a competitive racing world. The placement of these logos and names across the ship adds character and gives the design a dynamic, lived-in feel, as if it’s been part of many high-stakes races.

Another key challenge was the animation of the ship’s moving parts. Given the complexity of the mechanisms, I found that using Unreal Engine’s Blueprint system for animation was far more efficient than animating directly in 3ds Max. By utilizing the rotation of bones, I was able to create smooth, dynamic motion for various components of the ship, like wings, stabilizers, and thrusters. This approach allowed for real-time adjustments, which proved especially useful when dealing with the numerous moving parts in the design.

Conclusion :

I’m genuinely happy with how the Red Racer turned out, especially knowing that it’s a design I developed from scratch, bringing to life an idea I’ve had for some time. Seeing this concept evolve into a fully-realized, high-performance racer has been incredibly rewarding. With this model complete, I’m excited to explore where this project might take me next—whether in future designs or potential collaborations.

This feels like just the beginning!
